Why live on the South Shore

Hospitality, Charm, History, Beaches & Lakes and that down home country feel are what separates this area from the rest of the world! There are certain things you expect to find along Nova Scotia’s South Shore and these are just a few!

Of course, you you will see lighthouses standing watch along this rugged coast, in a fishing village or in quaint towns like Lunenburg or Shelburne. Historic streets capes so unchanged you feel as though you walked into a time warp. What about a festival like Mahone Bay’s Classic Boat Festival or Sarecrow Festival. Maybe catch a glimpse of the locally built and beloved schooner Bluenose II here as well. What about the ever popular South Shore Exhibition, its a hit with all ages!

The few things you may not expect would be a restaurant like Fleur de Sel, The Salt Shaker Deli or Magnolia’s Grill, situated just a stone’s throw from the Lunenburg wharves. What about the Wildwood Cafe in Bridgewater on classic King Street, where locals come to enjoy Marie’s panni’s & deserts or Aarons warm and friendly hospitality. You might not expect boutique shopping that offers up red-hot international labels for home décor and accessories or the chic boots from Australia that everyone is wearing. You might not expect to find more art galleries per capita than most major city centres. Whatever you are looking for there’s one thing you can be sure of – the South Shore will live up to and far beyond your expectations.

The growing town of Bridgewater, with a population of just around 8,000 residents and the busiest commercial centre south of Halifax, is quickly becoming the hub of the South Shore and will do just fine for all your family shopping needs. Enjoy the historic and famous Lahave River, running in the middle of the town, for its cool summer breezes and peaceful tranquilty are loved by locals. Bridgewater is anticipating the long awaited arrival of the new Lunenburg County Lifestyle Center soon to the area.  Bridgewater allows you to enjoy quiet family living in a comfortable modern surrounding. We welcome several people from away each year who work at the Michelin Tire Center. This community has seen strong and positive growth over the years to put us on the map as one of Canada’s nicest areas to live in.

Beaches, Beaches and more beaches for miles!! Petite Riviere and Green Bay also combine luxurious beaches with historically interesting sites, such as the old Mi’kmaq/Acadian burial ground near Sperry’s Beach. These communities have plenty to offer weather you you considering a vacation home or year round living the scenery, history and location is a family favorite. Did we mention its close proximity to the Famous Lahave Bakery. I bet you can smell the bread baking now!

Plan to fall in love with the scenery, people and shops and have your breath taken away. This is the place to call home, you may come for a visit, but we can almost guarantee that you will never leave.
